Ballistic Testing
PBL has the expertise and experience in ballistic testing of vehicle, aerospace and personal armour to a wide range of defence, security, automotive and infrastructure standards.
Facilities:
Utilising our fully equipped, indoor ballistic and impact laboratory, PBL offers a full suite of ballistic testing capabilities across a full spectrum of industrial, defence and civilian test standards. Our carefully selected staff hold individual specialisms providing the knowledge to back this technical capability.
Our primary test chamber can accommodate samples, builds and equipment several meters in size along with the provision for protected instrumentation space within the chamber. Shots are delivered with industry leading precision and measured with calibrated instrumentation enabling PBL to meet the most stringent of aimpoint and velocity requirements for both R&D and certification tasks. With a multiple screen chronograph, missed velocity readings are mitigated while also providing the capability to measure and record projectile velocity decay, ballistic coefficient and cross-check projectile stability for each shot as required.
Alongside our primary test chamber is a spacious and clean customer area, with high-speed Wi-Fi and good coffee. This enables our attending customers to directly or remotely engage with customers throughout a test series or other simply continue with secondary tasks throughout a day’s testing.
Utilising our universal breech, PBL is able to quickly change between threat types & calibres from 5.45mm through to 14.5x114mm (Plus 20mm FSP and up to 40mm grenade / debris) quickly and efficiently. We are also adjust the target orientation to achieve angled shots (e.g. to represent roof shots). Following any of these, high volume filtered extraction ensures a clean, safe and dust free working environment, especially important when testing target or ammunition combinations with a likelihood of hazardous particulates.
